PHILADELPHIA – Authorities say a man already facing attempted murder charges in Virginia will face new federal charges following his arrest in the abduction of a woman from a Philadelphia street.
Officials say 22-year-old Carlesha Freeland-Gaither was spotted in Jessup, Maryland, Wednesday with the man in a car with a broken-out back window. A witness had said she kicked out some of the car windows after she was dragged to the vehicle Sunday night.
Law enforcement agents blocked the car in and freed her. She was taken to a hospital and later reunited with family members. Thirty-seven-year-old Devin Barnes was arrested without incident.
Police say Freeland-Gaither had some injuries but was generally doing OK. There was no indication she and the man, who used to live in Philadelphia, knew each other.
