TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Authorities in Alabama say a Tuscaloosa police officer has shot and killed a man who attempted to assault the officer.
Tuscaloosa Police Capt. Brad Mason tells local media a 50-year-old white man was shot after an altercation with an officer Thursday evening.
Police say the officer, who was responding to an assault call, initially used a stun gun on the man but drew a firearm after the man continued to try to assault the officer. The suspect died at the scene.
The officer was treated at a Tuscaloosa hospital for minor injuries.
Authorities say the Tuscaloosa County Homicide Unit is conducting an investigation into the shooting, as is standard practice.
Police have not released the name of the suspect or the name and race of the officer.
