Authorities say the high-speed pursuit of a motorist arrested after an armed standoff on a California freeway began when police received a tip that the man resembled the sketch of a shooting suspect wanted in seven Arizona homicides.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Jonathan Howard said early Thursday that his department believes the California suspect is not connected to the Arizona shooting spree. The man was not identified.

The California Highway Patrol says the man was arrested around 4 a.m. in Riverside County after pacing in lanes waving a gun.

A vehicle pursuit began hours earlier in Orange County. Costa Mesa police say they received a call from a woman who said a man she met Wednesday had a gun and looked like the Arizona shooting suspect sketch she had seen on TV.
