Dozens of law enforcement officers are searching a desert area on the eastern outskirts of the Phoenix area after finding skeletal remains that may be those of a missing 19-year-old college student from Tempe.

Tempe police say the remains found Aug. 6 in a wash in a sparsely populated area of Apache Junction haven't been formally identified but that they have similarities with Adrienne Salinas.

She has been missing since early the morning of June 15, when she was heading to her boyfriend's home. Police say she never got there.

Police have searched the area near State Route 88 several times since the initial discovery and returned Thursday to search a larger area.

News video showed officers using shovels and other tools to dig and scrape in various places.
