New York police questioned a male suspect Wednesday night over the brutal death of an East Harlem grandma.

Gregory Velez, 35, was picked up by police in the Bronx late Wednesday afternoon in connection with the slaying of 73-year-old Judy Hernandez, who was found inside her East 120th Street apartment Tuesday night with a plastic bag over her head and her feet bound with a scarf.

Hernandez called her daughter at around 1:00pm local time to say there was a "funny-looking guy in the elevator" in her building at the Wagner Houses, police said.

Another daughter, Janette, went to the ninth-floor apartment at around 7:40pm, and made the discovery.

Jasminda Otero, 30, said her beloved grandma “used to go clubbing all the time."

“What 73 year old goes clubbing?" she added. "In stiletto heels, too?”

Hernandez’s neighbor Raymond Mejias, 54, said they would go salsa dancing in The Bronx, adding that he had trouble keeping up with the woman 20 years his senior.

“She had that energy," Mejias said. "I’d get tired, and she would keep on going."

Police did not say if Velez had been arrested, or if he was being questioned voluntarily.
