Authorities in Delaware are investigating after they say a man was assaulted and robbed while he was playing the popular "Pokemon Go" smartphone game near the state capitol.

Dover police spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman says three men in the area got the attention of the victim early Saturday, with the victim believing they were there to play the game as well.

When the victim approached the group, Hoffman says the men assaulted the victim and took an undisclosed amount of cash from his pockets and a gold necklace before fleeing.

Police urged players of the game to be aware of their surroundings and alert at all time while playing the game, which encourages people to wander in search of virtual Pokemon.
