A Miami-Dade police officer shot at a minivan that authorities say was moving toward him after an altercation between family members at a shopping mall.

Police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta says in a statement that the incident began with 36-year-old Michael Guzman and his wife arguing at a restaurant Tuesday night.

Zabaleta says Guzman pulled his wife's arms to remove her from the table and a relative intervened, but Guzman pushed him away and got into his minivan.

Officers on another assignment approached to help, but Zabaleta says Guzman continued driving toward them. Police say the woman jumped out of the moving vehicle but wasn't injured. Police say an officer fired, but no one was hit.

Police say officers caught up with Guzman, who complained of chest pains. He was taken to a hospital.

Police say charges are pending as they investigate.
