New Hampshire police say a man told his employer that his wife was dying of cancer in a scheme to obtain thousands of dollars in financial assistance.
Scott Wellington, 31, of Hudson, was arrested and charged with two counts of theft by deception for taking $7,000 from C&M Machine Co., MyFoxBoston reports.
Wellington later told his employer that his wife died. But when they mailed a sympathy card to his home, she found the card and alerted police that she was healthy and still alive.
Wellington will be arraigned Monday.
