NEEDHAM, Mass. – A 24-year-old Massachusetts man accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend and then stabbing his parents during a family gathering at a restaurant has pleaded not guilty.
MassLive.com reports that Benjamin Walsh was arraigned Monday in a hospital room, where he was taken for a psychological examination and treatment of a hand injury. Walsh was ordered to be held without bail.
Police were called to the restaurant Saturday evening in Millis, where they say Walsh stabbed his parents before he was restrained.
Walsh's mother was hospitalized in serious condition. His father was treated and released.
Officers later found the body of Walsh's girlfriend, 20-year-old Olivia Bergstrom, in the apartment they shared.
Walsh's father told The Boston Globe his son has struggled with mental health and substance abuse issues, and called the situation a "nightmare."
