Police investigating 4 more cases of abuse at elite NH prep school

Police are investigating four new cases of abuse at an elite New Hampshire boarding school a week after the school acknowledged that a longtime teacher had admitted to two cases of sexual misconduct with students in the 1970s and '80s.

Authorities said Wednesday that the four cases at Phillips Exeter Academy don't involve history teacher Rick Schubart, who has acknowledged the misconduct in cases reported in 2011 and 2015. Schubart was forced to retire and leave campus housing in 2011.

Exeter police determined the statute of limitations had expired in both cases involving Schubart. But Exeter Police Chief William Shupe said Tuesday that police "received information from the Phillips Exeter Academy detailing multiple allegations of misconduct and abuse."

Schubart could not be reached for comment.
