Police are investigating non-specific bomb threats to theaters across the country after the home office of Carmike Cinemas received a threatening call Friday.

In Atlanta, multiple jurisdictions were searched and secured, as well as several other movie theaters across metro Atlanta and northern Georgia, MyFoxAtlanta.com reports.

Atlanta police say a caller phoned in a threat to Carmike Cinemas' corporate office in Columbus, Ga., and they believe that caller is a former employee, MyFoxAtlanta.com reports.

Emergency crews in Illinois responded to the report and set up a staging area with police, fire, and ambulance vehicles across the street from Carmike's Orpheum Theater in Morris, Il.

The theater remains on alert after Bomb Squad K-9 units searched the facility.

"There could be nine theaters in Central Illinois that we're talking about. But we're worried about Morris, Illinois," Harvey Van Cleave, assistant chief for Morris Police Deparment said after the search.

Oklahoma City Carmike Cinemas received the threat against all of their theaters spanning several cities, according to police.

A call to Carmike's corporate office in Georgia was not returned.
