Authorities in Virginia say someone fired shots at the Newport News Police headquarters building, striking several windows, but no one was injured.

Police say in a statement posted online that they received reports of gunshots near police headquarters about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday and the building was damaged by several gunshots. Staffers were inside the building at the time, but police say no injuries were reported. Several windows were damaged by the gunfire.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
