Police charge man in kidnapping of toddler and 6-hour standoff in South Dakota city

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Police accuse a South Dakota man of taking a 2-year-old boy hostage and barricading himself inside a home for six hours.

Raymond Cuny, 32, was charged Wednesday with first-degree kidnapping and two counts of second-degree burglary. A court clerk says Cuny is being held in the Pennington County Jail without bond.

Authorities say Cuny took the boy hostage Tuesday evening and locked himself inside a home in Rapid City. A special response team forced its way inside and rescued the child later that night.

The child was returned unharmed to his family and no officers were injured.

The Pennington County sheriff said Cuny had two active felony warrants prior to the incident.

A trial date has not been set yet for Cuny.
