Police in Tempe, Ariz., have made an arrest in the May dragging death of an Arizona State University student.

Police said at a news conference Wednesday that 20-year-old Joseluis Marquez is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder in the death of Kyleigh (KY'-lee SOO'-zah) Sousa.

Authorities say Marquez doesn't have a permanent address and was taken into custody late Tuesday in Phoenix. They say he doesn't have an attorney yet, but will likely be assigned a public defender soon.

Police say the 21-year-old Sousa was outside a Tempe restaurant in the early-morning hours of May 26 when Marquez approached her and grabbed her purse. They say Marquez jumped into a car and took off, dragging Sousa, who was tangled up in the purse's strap.

Sousa was kept on life support until her family arrived from the Toms River area of New Jersey.
