Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane plans to speak out on the criminal charges filed against her last week.

Spokesman Chuck Ardo said Monday she'll respond to the charges and answer reporters' questions at a Capitol news conference Wednesday. He said she does not intend to resign.

Kane was elected as Pennsylvania's top prosecutor in 2012.

She is charged with leaking secret grand jury information and lying about it under oath. Authorities say the 49-year-old Kane gave the confidential information to a reporter to embarrass a former state prosecutor who she thought had made her look bad.

Kane was arraigned Saturday on charges including a felony count of perjury. She did not enter a plea, though she has maintained her innocence.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 24.
