Authorities say they have filed charges against a passenger in a stolen SUV involved in a Birmingham police chase that ended with a deputy fatally shooting the driver.

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said in a new release Thursday that 23-year-old Tracy O'Neal Jones is charged with first-degree receiving stolen property. Authorities say Jones was riding in the 2001 Lincoln Navigator driven by 21-year-old Isaiah Core, who died Wednesday.

Officials say the deputy opened fire on Core when he left Interstate 20 at the end of the chase. Core and Jones were ordered to get out, but the driver began backing up instead.

Jones is being held at the Shelby County Jail on a $15,000 bond. It's unclear whether he has an attorney.
