STROUDSBURG, Pa. – An eastern Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to state prison in the shooting death of his 19-year-old son on Father's Day last year.
The Pocono Record says 64-year-old Bernard Uckele of Reeders was sentenced to three to six years Tuesday.
Uckele was convicted in September of involuntary manslaughter and fleeing or attempting to elude police in the June 2009 death of Justin Uckele. He was acquitted of the more serious charges of first- and third-degree murder.
Authorities say the defendant told investigators that the shooting was an accident and stemmed from an argument between the victim's pregnant girlfriend and his sister in the family's Jackson Township home.
Defense attorney James Swertz has said he plans to appeal the convictions.
