DYSART, Pa. -- A driver is being treated for injuries suffered when he became partially covered in molten asphalt following a collision with a dump truck in western Pennsylvania.
Authorities say the unidentified man is in a Pittsburgh hospital after he was buried up to his waist in 300-degree blacktop in a three-vehicle crash in Dean Township on Tuesday.
Police say the dump truck tipped over, crushing the pickup's cab and pinned the injured motorist inside it on the driver's side.
The asphalt then began pouring into the truck, covering the man up to his waist.
Emergency officials are crediting the swift actions of a construction crew with saving the man's life by quickly shoveling him out and keeping him conscious.
