Orlando International Airport said it is opening a $250,000 Muslim prayer room on Sept. 1 to accommodate passengers who fly Emirates airlines, which will start arriving at the airport on the same day.
Muslims traveling at the airport were previously forced to pray in a nondenominational chapel, in public or in rest rooms, The Orlando Sentinel reported.
The "Reflection Room" will be located in Terminal B and will feature a clean zone and directional signs for north, south, east and west. A chapel already exists in the airport's main terminal.
"Orlando is truly becoming a global community, and we want to be able to accommodate and provide high-quality amenities for all our passengers," Phil Brown, the airport director, told the paper.
