Ohio pair accused of locking adopted daughters, son in bedrooms for 2 years, abusing them

Prosecutors in northeast Ohio say a husband and wife locked their two adopted daughters in a bedroom for much of two years, and they were beaten, given little to eat and sexually abused by the man.

The Ashtabula (ash-tuh-BYOO'-luh) County prosecutor says the girls reluctantly told authorities what happened after they picked a lock on their bedroom door in August 2013, slipped out of the house and crashed their parents' vehicle.

The prosecutor says the couple also abused a mentally challenged adopted son who was kept in another locked bedroom.

Both parents were indicted last week on charges of kidnapping, felonious assault and child endangering. The father was indicted on sexual battery and gross sexual imposition charges.

The parents are being held in jail. Neither has appeared in court.
