Ohio girl, 9, found dead in trash bin near home 5 hours after she was reported missing

Authorities say a 9-year-old Ohio girl has been found dead in a trash bin near her home hours after she was reported missing.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office says Reann Murphy was last seen Saturday night playing outdoors at the mobile home park where she lived in Smithville, about 30 miles southwest of Akron.

Officers, firefighters and residents began a frantic search for her. Deputies found her body in a trash bin at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, about five hours after she was reported missing.

Police are investigating her death as a homicide.

Sheriff Travis Hutchinson says Reann's "violent death" is troublesome and the sheriff's office "will leave no stone unturned."

The department didn't immediately respond to requests for further information, including how Reann was killed.
