Officials say a Marine was found dead near his barracks at Camp Lejeune.

The body of 25-year-old lance Cpl. Ricardo Rodriguez Jr. of Lindenhurst, New York, was found early Friday. Rodriguez was taken to Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, where he was pronounced dead.

Capt. Ryan Alvis says Rodriguez was an armory custodian.

Alvis says the Naval Criminal Investigative Service is investigating.

Rodriguez joined the Marines in 2012 and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2013. He returned from an assignment in Africa in July.

Rodriguez's death was the second at Camp Lejeune in a two-day period last week.

Twenty-two-year-old Cpl. Alexis Aaron Alcaraz died Aug. 13 after collapsing during a training hike.
