ATLANTA – Authorities say an Atlanta-area police officer was shot and critically wounded when officers responded to a call of a suspicious person and showed up at the wrong house.
DeKalb Police Chief Cedric Alexander said three officers responded Monday night. The officers entered the home from the rear, identified themselves and one of the officers was shot in the leg.
Alexander says the officer lost a lot of blood and is in critical condition at a hospital.
The homeowner was also shot in the leg and the homeowner's dog was killed.
It's not clear yet who fired the shots. Alexander says the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called to investigate.
The shooting happened in a neighborhood about 5 miles from downtown Atlanta.
