Authorities say a police officer in South Carolina shot a man after getting beat up while investigating a domestic call.

Lee County Sheriff Daniel Simon says both the deputy and the suspect are expected to survive after the fight Sunday.

Simon says the deputy was attacked after being called to a domestic dispute and suffered injuries to his face, then fired at the man because he feared for his life.

The sheriff did not say where the man was shot, and wouldn't release the men's names or other details about the fight.

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting. Spokesman Thom Berry says the deputy is black, and the man shot is white.
