NEW YORK – A New York City man has been accused of stealing $500,000 by swiping hundreds of identities over the Internet and then spending the money on jewelry, watches and other goods from upscale retailers.
Prosecutors say Nigerian-born Iguosade Osahon (ee-goo-SAH'-dee oh-SOH'-hon) stole names, dates of birth and Social Security numbers from more than 750 people across the United States.
They say he obtained unauthorized access to personal and financial data including hundreds of credit reports and leveraged the information to take control of people's bank accounts and credit cards.
Prosecutors announced Wednesday he faces 147 counts including computer tampering, grand larceny, identity theft and scheme to defraud.
He has pleaded not guilty.
