A Norwegian man charged with threatening police in Maine will be held without bail after telling investigators he was obsessed with the idea of being arrested in America.

Twenty-eight-year-old Espen Brungodt was arrested last week for sending email threats involving police. The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/2aSeBdN ) reports he was ordered held without bail after a federal court hearing Tuesday.

Authorities say Brungodt told investigators after his arrest that he has a mental disorder and it contributed to his desire to get arrested while visiting Portland. An FBI agent testified that Brungodt said his intent in making the threats was to be arrested and not to carry out a violent act.

Brungodt's attorney challenged the charge against Brungodt because he had no intention to carry out a violent act.
