CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A white Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer has been released from a hospital after being wounded in an exchange of gunfire with a black man who was also wounded.
Police spokesman Keith Trietley said in a statement that officers were called to a report that someone had been shot Saturday night. That person was not seriously injured. Police Chief Kerr Putney says the suspect fired at three officers and was wounded in the exchange.
Lt. Andy Harris was released Sunday from Carolinas Medical Center,
Twenty-five-year-old Joshulae Matthew-Vincent Carter remained in critical condition.
It was not clear which officer or officers shot Carter.
The statement said when Carter is released he will be charged with assaulting police officers, attempted murder, kidnapping and other offenses.
The officers are on administrative leave during the investigation.
