Newborn survives after pregnant mother shot dead in Detroit

Detroit police say a man fatally shot a man and a pregnant 23-year-old woman, whose baby was hospitalized after a cesarean delivery.

Sgt. Michael Woody says the gunman also critically wounded a 75-year-old man in the attack about 12:50 p.m. Sunday on the city's west side. Woody says the shooting victims were relatives.

Woody tells the Detroit Free Press the attacker first killed a 25-year-old man outside the house, then shot the woman and the older man as they emerged from the building.

Woody says the woman was nine months' pregnant and doctors delivered her baby girl. The sergeant says the baby and older man were being treated at Henry Ford Hospital.

Woody says the killer fled in the younger man's car. He says a motive is unknown.
