NEW YORK – A grand jury has heard testimony from a New York City police officer involved in the chokehold death of an unarmed man during a July arrest.
An attorney for Officer Daniel Pantaleo says he spent about two hours on Friday giving his account of the videotaped death of Eric Garner.
The grand jury began hearing evidence in the case in late September.
A spokesman for the Staten Island district attorney has declined to comment on when the grand jury is expected to vote on whether to indict the officer.
The medical examiner ruled Garner's death a homicide and said Pantaleo's chokehold contributed to it.
Police say the 43-year-old Garner was stopped for selling untaxed cigarettes. After his death, police officials vowed training reforms for officers.
