Albuquerque police are investigating what circumstances could have led to a man being nailed to a tree in a wooded area.

The man was discovered standing in a front of the tree with his hands next to his shoulders. Each hand had a nail through it, police said. They had received a call about an injured man on the east bank of the Rio Grande on Monday morning.

The nails were around three inches long but the man wasn’t bleeding when officers found him, The Albuquerque Journal reported.

“He was initially not cooperative or compliant with officers,” said Celina Espinoza, the spokeswoman for the Albuquerque Police Dept.

“They are continuing to try to interview him and determine exactly what happened and how he ended up in the bosque.”
