A New Jersey fisherman has a tale to tell but it has nothing to do with the one that got away.

The man survived after being struck by lightning on Island Beach State Park.

Environmental Protection Department spokesman Lawrence Hajna tells the Asbury Park Press officials were in the process of evacuating the beach because of a fast-moving thunderstorm Tuesday.

Hajna says lightning may have struck the 48-year-old Berkeley Township resident's fishing pole.

Hajna says the man complained about numbness in his legs.

The man is in stable condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

His name was not released.
