Prosecutors say a Maryland man with a 1971 kidnapping conviction is a "person of interest" in a woman's disappearance.

Washington County Assistant State's Attorney Daniel Dumproff made the comment Friday at a bond review hearing in Hagerstown for 67-year Jerry Petry of Hancock. Petry's bail was set at $500,000.

Petry was charged Thursday with stealing about $4,000 from the bank account of his missing neighbor, 54-year-old Laurie Hendershot. He's also charged with illegally possessing ammunition and obstructing an investigation.

Assistant Public Defender Alex Hutt says Petry has cooperated in the investigation.

Investigators say Hendershot was last seen July 7, in Petry's company. Petry told investigators he last saw her June 14.
