Connecticut auditors report that nearly $5 million in state property was lost, stolen, improperly discarded or vandalized from 2011 to 2014.

The Hartford Courant reports (http://cour.at/1ETVFok) that $216,000 worth of Stelera, a medication, spoiled when a refrigerator was left unplugged at UConn Health Center's Department of Dermatology.

In addition, two guns were stolen from the cars of state employees. Neither was recovered and neither of the employees was fired.

More than 350 computers were reported missing. Ninety-one were believed to have been stolen. Another nine were misplaced — left in airplane seat pockets, a New York City taxi, a train in Europe and elsewhere.

In addition, a $100 painting was stolen from a college president's dining room and a $4,000 snow plow blade was stolen from a University of Connecticut garage.
