TORRANCE, Calif. – A Californian man was being held on $1 million bail Monday after allegedly stabbing a woman and her daughter to death and wounding another man.
Officers responding Sunday night to a report of an assault at an apartment in Torrance, Los Angeles County, arrived on the scene to find a man outside suffering from several stab wounds, KTLA-TV reported.
Once inside, police came across the first victim in a front room. They then located 30-year-old Virgil Tyrone Tate naked and barricaded inside a room in the rear of the apartment.
Tate was eventually subdued, and officers found another female victim in the back room with multiple stab wounds. Both women were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither has been identified by authorities.
Lt. Holly Francisco with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Tate and his three victims all lived in the apartment.
The motive for the attacks was not known Monday. A woman who said the female victims were her mother and sister told KTLA Tate was her sister's live-in boyfriend and the male victim was renting a bedroom in the apartment.
Tate was taken into custody and booked on murder charges. He is being held in jail on $1 million bail.
The male victim was reportedly in stable condition Monday at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
