BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. -- A murder suspect shot himself Saturday morning after leading police on a high-speed chase that began in Tennessee and ended in northwest Georgia.
The unidentified suspect survived and was hospitalized in unknown condition, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
He was wanted in connection with a murder in Fort Campbell, Ky. His vehicle reached speeds of up to 120 mph as authorities chased him more than 80 miles from Hamilton County, Tenn., to Bartow County, Ga., Bartow Sheriff Clark Millsap said.
The suspect was forced to stop in Bartow County shortly after 3:00am local time when he ran over a tire-puncturing device. After stopping, he shot himself and was airlifted to the hospital, authorities said.
A portion of Interstate 75 was shut down for more than three hours due to the chase, according to the Journal-Constitution.
