DINWIDDIE, Va. -- Virginia State Police say three people were killed in a multi-vehicle wreck on Interstate 85 in the southeast part of the state.

All three deaths Friday morning were occupants of pickup truck that was involved in a collision with a logging truck and a chartered bus.

State Police Sgt. Thomas Molnar said one of the vehicles involved in the crash in Dinwiddie County was a bus carrying students from North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, N.C., to an engineering conference in Baltimore. Four students were examined at the scene but not hospitalized.

The driver of the bus was taken to a hospital for his injuries. The driver of the logging truck had minor injuries.

The identities of the two males and one female killed in the crash have not been released. A fourth person in the car was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

A section of I-85 was closed while investigators sorted out the crash, but all lanes were reopened Friday night.

The North Carolina A&T University students were transported to a nearby fire station and a second charter bus took the students to their final destination.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the apparent chain-reaction crash.
