ROANOKE, Va. – A high school in Roanoke, Virginia, is opening its doors to the community to celebrate the life of alumni Adam Ward, the 27-year-old cameraman who was slain last week on live TV.
Ward's family has asked visitors to Salem High School on Monday to wear the colors of his favorite teams, Virginia Tech and Salem.
Ward graduated in 2007 from the high school, where he played football for the Spartans on two state championship teams. His funeral is set for Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Roanoke.
Ward and television reporter Alison Parker were gunned down by a former co-worker Wednesday. Ward and Parker were on an early morning assignment for WDBJ-TV at Smith Mountain Lake when Vester Lee Flanagan walked up and shot them. Flanagan later killed himself.
