Neighbors told firefighters the woman and her daughter were seen earlier Monday, but were unaccounted for after the fire. The woman's vehicle was still in the driveway.

State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan said Tuesday officials are conducting a "detailed search" of the rubble. He said police had checked with the woman's relatives and friends, but she could not be located.

There was no immediate word on a cause.

Firefighters from at least 14 communities were called to battle the blaze. Tanker trucks were also used because there were no nearby hydrants.
