Police say a 7-hour standoff with a retired military man who was holding his family against their will has ended peacefully.

Ormond Beach Police say 36-year-old Kevin Hamilton fired gun shots in his home Wednesday with his wife and two sons inside. Authorities said Hamilton is on medical disability and neighbors said he was forced to retire after a traumatic brain injury during combat.

Neighbors said Hamilton is extremely kind. One neighbor said Hamilton suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://tinyurl.com/p5t59og) reports Hamilton was arrested twice this year for battery against an employee at a strip club and for DUI.

Police spokesman Officer Keith Walker said Hamilton will be charged with domestic violence strangulation and child abuse.

Ormond Beach is about 7 miles north of Daytona Beach.
