Michigan man sentenced for killing ex-girlfriend, 2 children

A 33-year-old Michigan man will spend at least 55 years in prison for killing his former girlfriend and two of her children.

The Holland Sentinel and MLive.com report that Corey LaValley was sentenced Monday in Allegan County Circuit Court.

LaValley pleaded no contest in January to three counts of second-degree murder.

The bodies of 33-year-old Debra Sheppard; her 12-year-old daughter, Emma McComber; and 10-year-old son, Corey LaValley Jr. were found March 10, 2015, in their Dorr Township mobile home, southwest of Grand Rapids. They had been shot to death.

The 10-year-old boy was Sheppard's son with LaValley.

The trailer was set on fire after the three were slain. LaValley was arrested 65 miles away in Eaton County.
