A man wanted on charges in a kidnapping and shooting in Alabama is under arrest in New Jersey after a traffic stop.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police say an officer pulled over 23-year-old Birmingham resident James Rountree on Wednesday night near Newark airport because his vehicle didn't have a rear bumper and was missing a rearview mirror.

The officer discovered Rountree was wanted on kidnapping and burglary charges stemming from the April abduction and shooting of a Tuscaloosa man in what investigators believe was a drug deal gone bad. The victim was found in Birmingham.

A second suspect is being held on bail, charged with attempted murder, kidnapping and burglary.

Rountree is awaiting an extradition hearing in New Jersey, where he's being held as a fugitive.
