PHOENIX – A man who stopped traffic in a tactical-style vehicle on a high span bridge on the Arizona-Nevada border near the Hoover Dam was taken into custody Friday afternoon.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jason Buratczuk said the man was arrested after barricading himself in the vehicle on the bridge crossing the Colorado River for 90 minutes, driving over tire spikes laid out by authorities and stopping his vehicle in a wash three miles (4.8 kilometers) off the highway on the Arizona side.
Buratczuk did not know the man's identity or if the man was armed, as police were told he might be. Authorities also were told the man had a sign, though Buratczuk did not know what the sign said.
He said the FBI took over the investigation because the incident crossed state lines.
Sandy Breault, a spokeswoman for the FBI in Las Vegas, did not immediately have any details on the incident.
There were no reports of injuries.
Buratczuk said that while the man was barricaded, visitors on the Hoover Dam walkway were evacuated. People inside a visitors' center at the dam were told to shelter in place, he said.
The man was barricaded in his truck on the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, part of Highway 93.
Drivers traveling between the Phoenix and Las Vegas areas were redirected to Highway 95 through Laughlin, Nevada. Traffic began moving again after the man was taken into custody.
