Authorities in Philadelphia say a man was shot and killed by police after a pursuit and a carjacking.

Police said officers tried to pull over a man riding an all-terrain vehicle at about 11 p.m. in the Germantown section in northwest Philadelphia.

Police said after a brief pursuit, the suspect jumped off the ATV and carjacked a local deliveryman, injuring an officer's leg as he fled.

Shortly afterward, the suspect tried to flee on foot, and police said when he reached for his waist, two officers shot him.

The suspect was taken to Albert Einstein Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The officer was also taken there for treatment but was expected to be released.

The identity of the suspect has not been released and the case is under investigation.
