A federal grand jury has indicted a New Orleans man accused of shooting a Louisiana sheriff's deputy who was leading a federal drug raid on his home.

On Friday, U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite said 26-year-old Jarvis Hardy was indicted on eight counts. Hardy faces one count of attempted murder of a federal officer, two weapons charges and five drug charges.

Jarvis is accused of shooting Stephen Arnold on Jan. 26 during a drug raid at his home in the Lower 9th Ward neighborhood. Arnold, a Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputy, was part of a Drug Enforcement Administration raid on Hardy's home.

Jefferson Parish sheriff's spokesman Col. John Fortunato said Arnold remained in critical but stable condition.

Hardy faces 20 years in prison on the attempted murder count.
