Man gets year in jail in NYC parking-punch case

A man has been sentenced to a year in jail for punching a woman who ended up brain-damaged after their clash over a New York City parking space.

Oscar Fuller got the maximum punishment Friday for his misdemeanor assault conviction. A jury acquitted him last month of a more serious felony charge.

The 36-year-old electrician says he's sorry for what he calls "an altercation that went the wrong way."

Fuller acknowledges hitting Lana Rosas in the face during their February 2011 confrontation in downtown Manhattan. The then-25-year-old was knocked off her feet and hit her head on the ground.

The Manhattan district attorney's office called the blow a brutal attack. Defense lawyer Thomas Kenniff says Fuller never foresaw or intended such serious injuries.
