Authorities say a Florida man died after deputies stunned him with a Taser at a psychiatric hospital.

Local news outlets report that the Manatee County deputies used the Taser because 39-year-old Christopher Erdman resisted when they tried to restrain him Wednesday at Centerstone Behavioral Hospital in Bradenton.

Erdman was handcuffed and being prepared for transport when officials say he suffered a medical episode. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The outlets cite authorities as saying that an unidentified person had dropped Erdman off at the hospital earlier Wednesday and that when police arrived he was yelling and running around the lobby.

The deputies involved have been placed on routine administrative leave while the death is investigated.
