A 45-year-old man accused of going on a drunken horseback ride through Boulder while on his way to his brother's wedding in Utah says he made it in time for the ceremony.

Patrick Schumacher of Colorado Springs tells The Daily Camera he attended the wedding Friday.

University of Colorado police say witnesses saw him hit his horse and occasionally wander into traffic near the school Sept. 9. He faces several charges, including animal cruelty and riding under the influence of alcohol.

Police say Schumacher had a small pug in his backpack, as well as beer cans and a black-powder pistol in his saddlebag.

Schumacher, who was traveling from Larkspur, Colo., to Bryce, Utah -- a 600-mile journey -- says he made it to Grand Junction before he and his horse hitched a ride the rest of the way.
