PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – A Florida man was arrested after allegedly crushing a teen's small car by driving over it in a giant truck with five-foot wheels during a mud party at the Redneck Yacht Club, the Herald-Tribune reported.
The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Norman Lee Nowling, was detained early Saturday during the "Swamp Cabbage Weekend," an annual event that sees thousands of people drive their vehicles around water and mud pits at the Redneck Yacht Club, in Punta Gorda, western Florida.
A 16-year-old girl told police that she left her Toyota Corolla in a field near the event's concert stage while she played in a mud pit with her friends and returned to find it had been crushed, WBBH reported.
A security guard who witnessed the event said he saw spectators gather around the car and urge two large trucks to run over it, shouting, "The owner doesn't care. You can do it!"
After the two trucks failed to crush the car, a third vehicle with five-foot wheels arrived at the scene and drove over the Toyota several times until it was smashed.
Nowling, from Fort Myers, Fla., was booked into the Charlotte County jail on criminal mischief charges but released after posting $2,500 bail.
A Redneck Yacht Club spokesperson told WBBH that everyone who attends the site signs a liability waiver. He added that the destruction of the girl's car was an unfortunate event.
