ALFRED, Maine – A lawyer for a Maine landlord charged with killing two tenants in 2012 following a dispute over snow removal says his client will change his plea to guilty.
The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1PajEjM) reports that 77-year-old James Pak will plead guilty Wednesday to murder and attempted murder. Attorney Joel Vincent said Pak wants to spare his family and the victims' families the ordeal of a trial.
Police say the shootings stemmed from a dispute between Pak and the tenants regarding the number of cars in the driveway and the landlord's failure to get snow removed. Pak had indicated he planned to use an insanity defense.
A psychologist testified that his behavior changed after a "mini-stroke" months before the killings. But a judge ruled he was competent to stand trial.
