CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – A lawsuit says two white school officials in southeast Missouri slammed a black teenager to the ground three times, injuring her neck and back and requiring hospitalization.
Judge Craig Brewer granted a venue change Wednesday in the case against the Cape Girardeau School District after attorneys for Ta'Brea Harris argued a fair trial was impossible locally since many potential jurors are district graduates.
The new venue hasn't been determined.
The incident was captured on surveillance video, which the judge has temporarily sealed.
The Southeast Missourian (http://bit.ly/1WsHVIw ) was the first to report details of the case.
Harris alleges an assistant principal and the athletic director slammed her to the ground on Dec. 11, 2014, after she argued with another student.
A spokeswoman and an attorney for the district declined comment Thursday.
